Another Successful Weekend for
Alamo Fencing Academy
Houston, Texas
Super Youth Circuit 2012

12 fencers traveled to Houston this weekend for a national tournament and have returned with 4 medals!

Congratulations to Ingrid Mayer for
WINNING THE GOLD MEDAL in Youth 10 Women's Epee! Breauna DeLon earns her first national medal, coming home with an 8th place medal in the same event. Nishta Boys, the youngest competitor in the tournament comes in short of the medal round, being in 12th place!
In youth 12 women's epee Tzarina von Fritsch misses being first by only one bout and brought home the silver medal! Breauna DeLon almost gets up on the podium twice, but misses the medal round and end up in 13th place. Ingrid Mayer was a brave fencer and fenced the age group up and earned 18th place. Nicole Eliseev cam in 20th but fought very hard. In their first tournament outside of San Antonio Isabella Friedrichs gets 24th and Caitlyn Clark gets 23rd, just keep working girls and the medals will come later! Tzarina von Fritsch rocks the older girls and fought hard to earn a 6th place medal in youth 14 women's epee.

Youth 10 Mens Epee Luke Koblinskie misses the medal round by just one place and finished in 9th place. He is one of the youngest fencers in this age group and still has lots of time to catch up! Isaac Alexander fisnishes directly behind Luke in 10th place, fencing hard and showing a great attitude. Julian Maldonado and Caleb Nilsson fought very hard in the youth 12 men's epee, it is one of the toughest age groups. They finished 17th and 23rd respectively. Youth 14 Mens Epee was a very tough competition, Julian Maldonado worked very hard to earn a spot in the top 32 and finishes 31st! Alejandro Jimenez traveled for the first time out of San Antonio region and finishes 47th.
Great Job to everyone! A great way to start 2012! Keep working hard and good luck in the future!

First Tournament of 2011-
A Huge Success for Alamo Fencing Academy


The Badawi Challenge- A Super Youth Circuit was held in Plano, TX September 4 & 5.
Alamo Fencing Academy comes back with a total of 6 medals,
including 2 gold!


Tzarina von Fritsch keeps shining in the Y12 Women's Epee Division bringing home a gold medal! Also, competing an age group up, finishes an atounding 8th place in Y14 Women's Epee! Also a special congratulations to Tzarina for earning her new rating- E11!

Fernanda Arredondo, after only fencing for 6 months, finishes 3rd in Youth 12 Women's Epee and 25th in Y14 Women's Epee! Both days she lost to teammate Tzarina, but put up a great fight and got her well derved epee!

Ingrid Mayer continues Alamo Fencing Academy's tradtion by bringing home the gold medal in Y10 Women's Epee! Also finishes 11th in Y12,  which is amazing since she was one of the youngest competitors in Y12!

Laura Muniz adds another medal to the count! Bringing home the 6th place Y12 Women's Epee medal! This is her 2nd National Medal after her great 1st place finish at the Arnold Open last March!

Luke Kolbinskie, a 7 year old fencing in Y10 Men's Epee, showed great courage and character and finished in 8th place!  After a not so good start in pools, Luke got it together and shined in the elimination round!

Julian Maldonado gave the older boys a great challenge! Being a Y12 fencer, he fenced the Y14 Men's Epee division and made the top 32 finishing in 24th place! And did a great job in the Y12 Men's Epee division finishing 18th!

Nishta Boys was only 1 point away from getting into the medal round in Y10 Women's Epee! This was her first tournament, and she one was one of the yougest competitors! But that did not stop her from fencing her best and getting some really great wins!

CONGRATULATIONS to all Alamo Fencing Academy students! Your coaches, parents and teammates are very proud of you! The way this year started is how we would like for it to keep going! So let's keep fencing hard, training hard, bringing home medals and showing what Alamo Fencing Academy is all about!
2011 Summer National Championships Results

    
Six Alamo Fencing Academy students travel to Reno, Nevada
June 29- July 8 for the 2011 Summer Nationals.
         
Tzarina von Fritsch opened the tournament missing the podium by only 1 touch in the Youth 12 Girls Epee Division, finishing 9th, and being one of the youngest fencers in Youth 14 she finished 59th. Julian Maldonado finished 83rd in Youth 12 Boys Epee and Caleb Nilsson finished 97th in the same division. Sean Nesloney fenced very tough in both age categories, and finished 50th in Youth 14 Boys Epee and 116th in the Cadet Mens Epee. Elizabeth Gilbert fenced great in pools in Junior Womens Epee, but ended up 86th. Oksana Samorodova does an outstanding job in her last tournament as an Alamo Fencing Academy student for the next 4 years. She finished 8th in the Junior Womens Epee division, her first time getting up on the National podium after her ankle injury! Congratulations to all the Alamo Fencing Academy fencers, and lets have a great new season starting after this break!
Nuevo Leon, Mexico visits Alamo Fencing Academy
April 18-23
Nuevo Leon Olympic Center fencers and coach, Tomas Mata,
visit AFA for the 3rd time in the last 5 years to prepare for the
Junior Olympics of Mexico!
7 young fencers came to train and fence with our fencers
to improve their conditioning and fencing!

Congratulations to Alamo Fencing Academy's Young fencers at the 2011 North American Cup! Very great fencing, and good result for such a big tournament!

Sean Nesloney brings back a hard-earned 5th place medal in the 14 year old boys!
Ingrid Mayer continues her medal gathering in the Y10 girls- bringing home the 3rd place, along with Estrella Hernandez getting her first National medal- 7th place!

Also a congratulations to Nicholas Rickhoff with a good job in his first ever National Tournament in the Y14 Boys Epee- 34th place.
Julian Maldonado misses the podium by just 2 touches, finishing 14th in the Y12 Boys Epee! Eddie Garcia finishes 9th in the Y10 Boys Epee, almost there Eddie, great job!

TZARINA VON FRITSCH AND OLIVIA KRICK CONTINUE AFA'S TRADITION OF WINNING MEDALS IN YOUTH EVENTS AT THE US NATIONALS
AFA's youth fencers once again shine brightly at the United States Fencing Association's 2010 Summer National Championships in Atlanta, Georgia!  Olivia Krick took home an eighth place medal after having fenced amazingly throughout the tournament.  Tzarina Von Fritsch finished with a silver.  Fencing her heart out, Tzarina took her larger and stronger opponent to priority in the third bout before receiving the final touch.

AFA is very proud of Tzarina and Olivia who have joined the cadre of AFA youth fencers who have repeatedly won medals at the U.S. National Championships since AFA's inception.

Finishing 5th in the Division II Women's Epee Tournament
earned Elizabeth a very greately deserved C10 rating!


AFA's Junior Women Team and Kael McInnis Score Big at 2010 Junior Olympics
Silver was the color of choice for AFA's Junior Women's Epee team who took 2nd in the team competion at the Junior Olympics held in Memphis, Tenn. in February, 2010.  AFA is extremely proud of Oksana Samorodova, Elizabeth Gilbert, Natalie Parma, and Sonali Patel for their amazing performance at the JOs!   AFA is also very proud of Kael McInnis who finished with a Seventh Place medal in Cadet Men's Epee.

The next big event is the NAC F in Virginia Beach where AFA anticipates a great showing from our Youth and Div 1 fencers.
AFA's Medal Count at the US Nationals Continues!
Four fencers from Alamo Fencing Academy won medals at the United States Fencing Association's Summer National Championships held in Grapevine, Texas from July 3 - 12, 2009.  Kael McInnis, a student at Keystone School, won a silver medal in Men's Y14 Epee, and Farrah Lee Elabd, a student at Cambridge Elementary School, won a silver medal in Girls' Y10 Epee.  Nick Kubick, a student at Johnson High School, and Robert Reed, a San Antonio freelance photographer, won bronze medals in Men's Div 1A Foil and Men's Div 1A Epee respectively.

With a total of 96 events, the USFA's Summer Nationals is the largest fencing event in the world and it showcases some of the most talented fencers in the United States, including the four medalists from Alamo Fencing Academy.
Farah Lee-Elabd and Anna Tolley Shine at North American Cup in Portland
On April 24 through April 27, 2009, fencers from around the United States and various parts of the world converged in Portland, Oregon for the USFA's North American Cup tournament.  Two fencers from AFA brought home medals.

Farah Lee-Elabd won a Bronze Medal in the Girl's Youth 10 Epee event, missing making it to the Gold medal bout by a single touch.  Anna Tolley, who fenced in the Girl's Youth 14 Epee event, added an Eighth Place medal to her growing collection of fencing awards.

Coach Andrei was especially proud of Robin Cheong who barely missed making it to the medal rounds in the Boy's Youth 10 event.  Robin has great potential according to the coach and can be a great fencer one day!
AFA HOSTS SECOND USFCA COACHING CLINIC
Coaches from all over the United States participated in the USFCA's Foil Coaching Clinic held at AFA on April  3-5, 2009. 

All coaches received USFCA certificates of attendance.  Three coaches received their Moniteur certifications!

USFA JUNIOR WOMEN'S EPEE TEAM CAMP A HUGE SUCCESS AT AFA
Twenty-two women epee fencers from across the United States, representing ten different divisions from coast to coast, came to AFA for a training session on March 28-29, 2009.  The purpose of the session was to help prepare the women's junior epee world team for the world championships in Bellfast.  Of the 22 fencers, 19 were Div. 1 eligible and over half had A ratings.  Andrey Geva, Bob Hurley along with Coach Samorodov developed a series of sessions that maximized the bouting experience for the girls.  The event was deemed to be a success by all that attended.
OKSANA SAMORODOVA SHINES AT 2009 JUNIOR OLYMPICS!
Oksana Samorodova demonstrated at the 2009 Junior Olympics in Albuquerque that hard work and determination really do pay!  Her reward -- a SILVER medal in Cadet Women's Epee and a fifth place medal in Junior Women's Epee.  AFA congratulates Oksana for her finishes and her well deserved A09!!
