| Fencing is a sport for children, teenagers and adults. Kids can start fencing as early as five years old and continue the sport for their entire lives. Fencing captures the imagination, encourages creativity, and develops and builds confidence in physical and mental skills. Modern fencing requires the courage, stamina, speed, and agility of a fighter combined with the brains to out-think an opponent. There is nothing like the exhilaration of battle, the pleasure of movement, and the mental challenges that you receive from fencing! The modern sport of fencing only remotely resembles the old dueling styles of past centuries. Today's fencers wear a steel mesh mask, strong protective clothing, and use flexible, blunted blades. Alamo Fencing Academy fencers fence with all three competitive weapons, epee, saber and foil; however, our primary focus is epee and saber. Members of our National Team, coached by Andrei Samorodov, have repeatedly won gold, silver and bronze medals in all three weapons at national, regional and local tournaments. |
